MOTIF + RS Owners - Help Needed Post #1

I have a problem with my RS/Motif combo, and I've been experiencing this for over a year now, and still have found NO workaround other than flip-flopping MIDI cables. I've even contacted Yamaha and stumped their "specialists." But the answer they gave me doesn't seem to make ANY sense....it begs the question WHYYYYY? Anyways...here goes...

At the current time, I always write my tracks with the MIDI OUT of the Motif plugged into the IN of the RS (so I can use the Motif keys to play the RS's TG).

The problem occurs when I want to add tracks to the song using the Motif's sounds. If I have tracks recorded to the Motif, when I press play to start the Motif AND the RS, the Motif sends the notes meant for it's own TG to the RS as well.

Can't turn the NOTE IN function for the RS's midi filter off, as that only applies to the sequencer block, not the TG, so the notes play through the RS even though they're not recorded.

Now were the problem on the RS, i could go to the midi setup page and turn all the tracks off...seeing as this is the motif tho, Yammy's "specialists" (notice the quotes) told me to go to the MIDI filter page on the motif and turn the NOTE OUT to off. Guess what? This works fine and well the way it's supposed to on the RS, but FOR SOME FRIGGIN' REASON, this has NO EFFECT on (my) Motif. Even with the NOTE OUT off, the notes are STILL sent to the RS. Hmmmm...did Yammy screw up, I wonder?

This is very aggravating. It means that when I write a track, if I want to play the RS and Motif tracks TOGETHER, i have to flip it around...instead of the motif controlling the RS, i have the RS control the motif, as the RS is quite capable of not sending midi to its out ports. It also means that if I have tracks on BOTH, and I want to record to the RS, either I have to use the RS's keyboard (no velocity sensitivity - phooey), or mute the tracks on the motif (phooey again).

Yamaha straight up told me "Can't be done." If this is true, then Yammy made a royal screwup...i mean, WHY DOES THE MIDI NOTE OUT FILTER FUNCTION NOT DO WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO? Shouldn't this have been addressed in an update? After all, that's what they are REALLY for anyways.

Just wondering if everybody elses motif does the same thing or if i bought a freak of nature.

BTW, I am also posting this on Motifator.com...

Try turning Local Control to OFF on the Motif. That means that only the notes from the keyboard and controllers go to the RS. (Set the RS to Rec Monitor Thru).
